About Our Project
The BlueBOT Project provides ocean intelligence services. It allows people who cannot swim, are physically disabled, or fear the water to access underwater life by diving virtually through underwater robots.
We also offer ROV services for benthic surveys, underwater content creation, and biodiversity observation. Based in Barbados, BlueBOT was a winner in the UNDP Accelerator Labs Blue Tank competition 2020 and an awardee in Compete Caribbean and the Ocean Innovations Challenge.
The Intended Impact
CORAL REEF RESILIENCE
Coral bleaching events and algal overgrowth threaten the reef ecosystem. Climate change, overfishing, ocean acidification and eutrophication are the major culprits.
DATA
There are gaps in the data available on Caribbean coral reefs. These data gaps are due to challenges in data collection and data sharing . Timely and consistent data collection drive more sustainable policies.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Advances in computing power and machine learning algorithms process data faster for a deeper insight.
EFFICIENCY IN MONITORING
We can reduce the cost, time and risk to human life incurred monitoring coral reefs by integrating artificial intelligence.
REMOTE SURVEYING
Our robots can remotely survey and monitor coral reef ecosystems down to 200ft.
EARLY WARNING
Constant surveillance lead to more effective and cheaper mitigation
“Caribbean economies are poised to
sustain approximately 4 billion USD
in economic losses if coral reef
degradation continues.”
